Stand-up to Public Speaking, and Now Back to Stand-up Again
By Darren | August 4, 2008
Ever nervous before you take the stage? I am. The only time I had no nerves, I bombed miserably. Some nerves are good means you care. We just need to manage them. What is the best way? Stage time.
Well, this past weekend, my plans changed and I ended up not traveling and staying in Vegas. I was offered a spot at the LA Comedy Club on the Vegas Strip…it’s STAGE TIME! How can I tell presenters around the world to never turn it down if I do it myself. It was a no brainer.
I must say though, stand-up is a very different “muscle” than presentations and keynote speeches. I was more nervous than I thought I would be. This crowd does not care that I won a trophy. It does not matter to them. I don’t have the credibility I have in the Toastmasters world when I take the stage in a comedy club. They just want to laugh. That’s it.
The last time I took the stand-up comedy stage was over a year ago! (That was when Vinnie, my mentor, put me on the spot when I watched his show.)
Want to see me nervous?
Check out the video below…
Stage time,

PS Hope you laugh at some of it!
PPS How to Own The Stage introductory special has only 27 days left. (FYI The first run only has 3 left, I’ve reordered, but it will be a few weeks.
