Are you good as a speaker? Who says so?

    By Darren | September 30, 2008

If professional speaking is in your future (or present) we need to keep in mind what a potential “buyer” wants. If they have never seen you present, they want to know someone else has and they loved it. It becomes an even better testimonial when they re-hire you again.

The bigger the client, the more the testimonial carries weight. If you are still speaking for free, make sure you are getting testimonials from audience members. (Even if they are members of your own Toastmasters club). Make sure you use their “professional designation” and company they work for when quoting them.

If you are continually pleasing clients they are usually happy to provide you with one. It is your job to ask. I recently ask the founder and the President of my biggest client. iProspect is a global company where I train their presenters. See the video below and hear what they had to say about my presentation training.

Never speak for free…even though you may not get a “fee” every time, get compensated in other ways. Namely, get testimonials. They are valuable to help you build your business!
